Introduction of Helium Concentration Meter

A helium concentration meter (typically referring to a thermal conductivity-type helium concentration sensor) is an instrument used for real-time monitoring of the background helium concentration in leak detection environments. Its core sensing element is usually made of metals such as platinum or tungsten, with a housing made of engineering plastic or metal. It is typically a compact handheld or fixed device with a small size.

Function of Helium Concentration Meter

Monitoring Ambient Helium Background Concentration:
This is its primary function. In leak detection workshops or laboratories, residual helium from previous tests, helium leaks, or inadequate ventilation can cause the background helium concentration in the environment to rise.

Improving Leak Detection Accuracy and Sensitivity:
Helium mass spectrometers are highly sensitive to fluctuations in ambient helium concentration. If the background level is too high or unstable, it can mask signals from minute leaks, preventing the leak detector from distinguishing between environmental variations and actual leaks. This reduces detection sensitivity and may even lead to false judgments.
By using the concentration meter, operators can ensure leak detection begins in a low and stable helium background environment, thereby guaranteeing the leak detector operates at its highest sensitivity.
Ensuring Operator Safety:
Although helium itself is non-toxic, high concentrations of helium can dilute oxygen in the air, creating an oxygen-deficient environment that poses a suffocation risk to personnel. The concentration meter serves as a safety alarm, triggering an alert when the ambient helium concentration exceeds a safe threshold.
Reducing Helium Costs:
Through monitoring, issues such as helium leaks or ventilation system failures can be identified, enabling timely corrective measures and reducing unnecessary waste of expensive helium.
